How do I choose the right wedding videographer for my wedding?

This article aims to help couples planning their wedding to find the right wedding videographer that suits them. It’s probably one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your special day. Below are is a helpful list of things to consider:

  1. It’s never just about how good their work is.

The uncomfortable but evermore true reality is that the cameras professional wedding videographers have these days do the majority of the work. The technology is amazing, with Steady Shot in camera stabilisation available in most cameras (Sony in Eye Flower Films’ case) these, anything can look great. After filming countless weddings over the last while, what I’ve come to see is that the real job of the videographer is to be present on the day. The actual work is tuning into the couple, being aware of the dynamics between the bride, groom & loved ones & being able to enable atmospheres that facilitate the authentic documentation of this most special day. A seasoned videographer will make this an effortless process. They will know when to guide but also when to remain more fly on the wall in their approach. This said, you want a videographer who clearly has a skill in people & high emotional intelligence. You’ll gather this most quickly by doing an introduction call or chat with them. This is what I do with all Eye Flower Films couples. We talk, say hi & of course talk packages & details. But what introduction & planning calls are about is actually allowing you guys, the couple, to vet their suppliers & feel confident that they are the right person for them on a human level, not just a professional competence level.

  2. Audit their website, socials & reviews.

One of the most foolproof covert ways of sussing out if a wedding videographer is right for your special day is through reviewing their online presence. Check out the wording on their website & what kind of vibe it communicates - is it luxurious? Is it genuine or down to earth? Think about what speaks to you on a human level here. The same is to be said for their socials & reviews. They should be active here with new content if they are worth being considered by you. Assess their style, look at how they communicate. Analyse how other people are speaking about them through the reviews (Google is the unbiased king here) & testimonials. This is a further surefire way of discovering what wedding videographer would fit for your day.

  3. Ask them many questions as you can (without being annoying haha!).

Any quality wedding videographer who has time to build a genuine professional connection with their couple is always up for discussing & chatting what you guys actually care about most. That’s how it work’s with Eye Flower Films at least. I love hearing from my couples about their wedding film vision. The more I can paint the picture of what’s in their mind’s eye for their wedding film the better. This is why I love collaboration & in my humble opinion the right wedding videographer will be open to this. Because ultimately it’s not our wedding films. They are your films to keep forever & It’s our job to honour that. Within reason of course, if you want white doves & explosions to appear in the background of your films like a Tarantino film you might run into some pushback. The point is any genuine full-time wedding videographer will always take into consideration what matters to you in your wedding films. All wedding videographers have certain styles of course, but speak to them. They are there to help & through this you can get better insight on their integrity as a suppler.

    I hope this helps!
