An Irish-Italian Wedding at Villa Catignano, Tuscany.

This year (2026) I had the honour of filming a wedding for an Irish couple in Tuscany, Italy. Villa Catignano in Tuscany to be exact. It was a three-day filming extravaganza at this incredible rustic venue full of authentic genuine connection captured. The wedding venue itself was the epitome of Tuscany, with it’s atmospheric surrounding nature, rustic stone walls & more pasta than I knew was good for me! I personally ate more than my fill & loved every bit of it while filming this wedding for this Irish couple in question!

Day one was the welcome party. The filming began just perfectly as the sun set over the Tuscan countryside (which is all viewable from the perched enclaves of Villa Catignano. I couldn’t stop pressing record. Between the views & all the guests mingling, sharing pizza, Aperol Spritzes & gelato, it was just pure delightful heaven ahead of the wedding day to come.

Day two, the big wedding day, began with drone coverage of the venue. There are some venues that simply deserve drone coverage, Villa Catignano was it. I allocated 15 minutes to get some ariel shots before heading to bridal prep which turned into 30 minutes of whizzing & panning the drone about from the sky above this venue. It was too much fun. Onto bridal prep in the main wedding suit at the top of the beautiful staircase of the main building. What moments we documented. I spent the morning bouncing calmly & quietly between the bride & the bridal party getting hair & make-up done. Capturing moments of joy & some nerves no doubt. I joined the groom upstairs later then, past the Japanese painting staircase (this is a must see as I love Japanese art!) to get some shots of him in his suit.

The suite the groom was in was like an emperors master chambers. The walls & roof precisely adorned in Roman style art & detailing, it felt like I was in a scene from Gladiator. Or something. There was a baby blue bathroom up here too which was incredibly unique which we got clips of the groom fixing up his hair ahead of the ceremony.

The ceremony took place in the lower garden, passed the garden maze, in the perfectly timed outdoor sun. The roman statue’d head & string quartet as well as the lemony decor the couple chose made the place truly enchanting. The ceremony was beautiful, & a joy to capture from multiple angles with my cameras tucked away subtly capturing each moment.

Refreshments & appetizers took place after the ceremony where I captured too many hugs & laughter as the guest mingled & caught up while the bride & groom took a respite from all the action momentarily.

Onward was the dinner. Set in the main courtyard of this wedding venue & was even more lemony. Although many videographers don’t record during the dinner, I find it’s actually one of the best times to capture moments of connection & joy, as food simply brings people together in the best way.

The couple opted to make their own Italian style wedding cake in conjunction with the head chef of the villa which was incredibly unique & some spectacle to record. They celebrated the moment by chopping the head off a champagne bottle with firework sparkler machines in the backdrop which made the filming the shot movie-like in quality. It was so much fun.

As the sun left & the stars came out, the guests (& big italian cake) migrated to the wine cellar. Now converted as the priority party & dancing quarters the evening progressed from there. They had disco balls, DJ’ed music, Saxophone performances & of course their first dance. I was trying my best to remain professional but was largely dumbfounded as to how I got to call it “work”.

It was too much fun to film this wedding. We even finished off the night by enjoying some of the freshly made Italian cake! (Permission granted from the couple of course haha).

Day 3 was a pool party, & with permission we documented this for the couple too. There is a pool on the premises of Villa Catignano. It is perched atop a big hill but the climb is worth it as either side of the walk way are humungous Cyprus Trees (The one’s you see in Gladiator… I love gladiator the film a lot if you can’t tell) - it makes it all worth it when you finally arrive to the cool water, a couple of Ice-creams & some tanning with your loved ones in the sun.

After that, it was a wrap.
What a destination wedding & what an honour it was to be there for this Irish couple to capture their Italian destination wedding.
