Wicklow escape wedding - information & Tips!

The wedding venue “The Wicklow Escape” in Donard, Co. Wicklow is the definition of charm. Never in my life would I imagine getting married in such an unique wedding setting. Yet now, after experiencing & filming a couples wedding there, I’m sold! This blog post explains all I experienced as well as some helpful tips & insights on the venue in terms of what the experience has to offer:

I filmed in the Wicklow Escape for a total of two nights. I’ve since fallen in love with the venue. Night one settles you in: Casual pizza, chats & strolls around the grounds. Right by the rooms was a paved garden (very bee & sustainability friendly which was incredible to see). That evening I saw strawberries still on their stems outside the dining hall. On their stems I tell you! The nature that enveloped the whole place set the pace. Everything slowed down. I felt lighter, Especially coming down from the buzz of Dublin. The atmosphere felt homely, calm & genuine.

The big wedding day rolled around. After a morning coffee, the hike amongst the pines (found out the back of the cottage up the hill - Keep going until you find an old stone ruin covered in moss!) got us all in the zone. We strolled by the soon to be ceremony area amongst the trees which was exciting foreshadowing. If that is you are lucky enough to get the right weather! Thankfully, the weather was on our side, but even if it has other plans on the day, the Long Room is special in it’s own way.

To be amongst those Irish tree’s though, surrounded by everyone that you love, just felt so Irish, so right. It felt very Celtic, it felt genuine to our history. During the ceremony I caught myself looking up at the tree’s as the vows we’re said by the couple and just tried to drink it all in. It wasn’t pretentious, but harmonious with nature I kept thinking to myself from behind the cameras I filmed on. I do recall, as I romanticized the whole place, drops of rain now & again but it managed to stay dry. Thankfully one of the staff was at the back of the ceremony armed to the teeth with umbrellas just in case. The staff there really took care of everyone.

if a nature loving bride we’re to ask me now, “I’m looking for a wedding venue that’s beautiful but not in a church” I’d point them here. If you’re looking for the right atmosphere to tie the knot in a human way, The Wicklow Escape in Donard, Co. Wicklow is where I’d send any of my couples. It’s human, it’s Irish, it’s the Wicklow Escape!
