The difference between a 5000€ wedding videographer and 2500€ wedding videographer is negligible. Mic drop, I know. The process of creating the end product (the wedding film) for the majority of wedding videographers is the same. We use the same software, same camera equipment & editing templates to capture and deliver the filmed day. Don’t tell anyone I told you this! Most wedding films are formulaic in their creation. You are paying for the combination of the following: Years of experience, videographer follower count, target market niche. The more years videographers have in the game the higher they are entitled to charge. This is fair. The social credibility that videographers have often justifies them charging higher rates. Finally, many videographers purely price the way they do to target the luxury market. It’s frustrating for bride’s-to-be but you must think of it from a business point of view. If a videographer can do the same work but one client simply has no budget & is happy to pay… you bet your bottom dollar they are going to target these fancy couples. This is the reason videographers can charge higher prices. So where does that leave us?
Well, if it’s important to you that you hire the most known videographer to get on their socials & have your moment of wedding fame… you will be forking out more dosh. But… if you simply want a cherishable day to look back on with your family in the years to come, I would implore you to find a videographer that’s genuinely priced, but to research more their personality. This is something I’ve noticed a lot of brides neglecting when factoring in price. This person is going to be with you on the biggest day of your life… all day. I sure know I’d prefer to pay a little extra for someone I get on with over another videographer who is simply on a different wavelength. As a concluding note, I will offer one caveat: the higher the price, the less weddings a videographer has to shoot to keep the lights on. If you do out the maths on this, it also means they have more energy to apply the care & dedication to craft a truly bespoke film for you. This is something to contemplate. But as someone who works in the industry, you can find a healthy balance of both simply by asking how many weddings a videographer shoots a year! If it’s over 40, likely they are churning out films on a monotonous conveyor belt!
